Senate Resolution 29

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MEMBERS OF THE METCALFE YOUTH CHOIR FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO SERVING THEIR COMMUNITY AND FOR THEIR POSITIVE ROLE MODELS FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF THE STATE.

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir was formed in 1994 for the dedicated young people of the community who were willing to devote their talents and time to serve others; and

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir consists of enthusiastic youths between the ages of six and twenty; and

WHEREAS, most of the members of this dynamic choir are from single-parent households; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, the Metcalfe Youth Choir has been a positive influence on the youth of Metcalfe and the Delta; and

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir tirelessly performs for churches, social groups, civic and community organizations and constantly devotes time to senior citizens throughout the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of their talent, the Metcalfe Youth Choir has opened concerts for the Mississippi Mass Choir and many other gospel groups; and

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir was organized by Cedric Sturdevant, a Metcalfe resident, who has dedicated his life to improving the conditions of the youth of Metcalfe; and

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir is an inspirational example of the extraordinary commitment of young people dedicated to serving God and their fellowman:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That the Senate does hereby commend the members of the Metcalfe Youth Choir for their dedicated service to their community and for the positive role models they provide for the youth of this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to the Metcalfe Youth Choir and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
